Invention Disclosure

Briefly, an Invention Disclosure (also Report of Invention, etc.) is a formal document that captures the essence of the invention, the people having contributed to it, and their degree of contribution, as well as the involvement of third parties in case that this would imply obligations towards them (e.g. collaborators, other researchers or institutions that provided information or materials, entities that financed the project or its personnel, etc.). The Invention Disclosure is a confidential document, and can be complemented if wished with other, available information (e.g. draft manusript, etc.)

By clicking on each type above, you will be directed to our “Inventor’s Web Portal”, the Intranet page through which you will be able to complete and submit the form to your TBDO (this may require that you provide your CRG password first), follow your submissions, and other consultations in relation to your activities with the TBDO. If you have experience in disclosing to the TBDO, please feel free to directly complete and submit the most appropriate form. If it is your first disclosure, please continue reading for more information that will help you understand and complete some critical requested fields:

Authors/Inventors/Contributors

Are considered authors/inventors/contributors those who conceived or contributed an essential element of a creative work (e.g. software, images), invention (patentable), or new material (e.g. cell lines, antibodies, animal models, etc.) either independently or jointly with others, during the evolution of the technology concept or its reduction to practice. Authorship/inventorship/contribution requires a certain intellectual input and, thus, technical assistance or co-authorship of a paper describing an invention, software, etc. does not automatically bestow authorship/inventorship on the assistant or the co-author. On the other hand, authorship/inventorship is independent of the working status of the people involved, thus anyobody who contributed intellectually and directly to the discovery or invention, or helped obtain/develop a certain proprietary material or work, whether faculty, students, post-docs, technicians, etc. must be named as author, inventor or contributor. Please notice that incorrect disclosure of the inventors may invalidate, e.g. a patent.
